Crown Jewels 2021 Scholarship Recipients

CROWN JEWELS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Mardi Gras “Royalty” Scholar I -­ Award in a one-time minimum amount of $5,000 to be disbursed in the Fall semester of 2024.

The Mardi Gras “Royalty” Scholar II-Award in a one-time minimum amount of $3,000 to be disbursed in the Fall semester of 2024.

For both scholarships listed above the applicant must:

  • Be a current graduating high school senior
  • Be African American
  • Be a resident of Mecklenburg County and attend a high school located in Mecklenburg County, NC
  • Be accepted and enrolled as a full­-time student at a four­-year college or university immediately after graduation from high school during academic year 2023 – ­2024
  • Have strong leadership potential
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 unweighted scale, verified by a current high school transcript
  • Demonstrate significant financial need
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from non-relatives
  • Provide a 300-word minimum to 500-­word maximum essay

The Mardi Gras “HBCU Royalty” Scholar -­ Award in a one-time minimum amount of $3,000 to be disbursed in the Fall semester of 2024 – applicant must:

  • Be a current graduating high school senior
  • Be African American
  • Be a resident of Mecklenburg County and attend a high school located in Mecklenburg County, NC
  • Be accepted and enrolled as a full­-time student at a four­-year Historically Black College and or University (HBCU) immediately after graduation from high school during academic year 2023 -­2024
  • Have strong leadership potential
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 unweighted scale, verified by a current high school transcript
  • Demonstrate significant financial need
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from non-relatives
  • Provide a 300-word minimum to 500-­word maximum essay

Links Scholar – Award in a one-time amount of $3,000 to be disbursed in the Fall semester of 2024 – applicant must:

  • Be a current graduating high school senior
  • Be African American Female
  • Be a resident of Mecklenburg County, NC and attend a high school located in Mecklenburg County, NC
  • Be accepted and enrolled as a full-time student at a four-year college or university immediately after graduation from high school during academic year 2023 – 2024
  • Have strong leadership potential
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 unweighted scale, verified by a current high school transcript
  • Demonstrate significant financial need
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from non-relatives

Crown Jewels (NC) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated Scholarship Committee

Annually, the Crown Jewels (NC) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated awards multiple scholarships to deserving African-American high school seniors.  The dedicated members of the Scholarship Committee focus on selecting award recipients who are not only academically gifted and have a financial need, but we also target those who have made and will continue to make a significant impact on their local communities through their community service efforts. Over the past eight years, we have awarded over $,131,000 to 42 outstanding Mecklenburg County students, including four awards of $20,000 each.
